Calm and Quiet Activities for Little Ones

colored noodle necklaceThere are times when we really want quiet time as a parent. However, it often coincides with times that our children want to be loud and playful. For that reason, here are some tried and true activities that will entertain little ones for hours at a time.

Noodle Necklaces

Noodle necklaces or bracelets have been a popular choice for many years for those times when parents or teachers wish for quieter moments. It is fun to create and helps little kids learn to work their hands and eyes together. You can spray paint noodles of different colors ahead of time and then put out a variety of colors for them to use to create their work of art. All you need beyond noodles is a place for your kids to work. One thing to keep in mind, for a smaller child you will want to use noodles with larger holes and perhaps firmer fishing line for threading the noodles together.

Creative Pictures

Find It JarYou can use contact paper as an art project for your child. Simply tape it to an easel or a table and cut out straws, craft sticks, and other types of things for them to use. Your child will spend hours trying to create a picture using the items that you have put out for them and there will be very little mess to clean up afterward.

Coloring Creativity

If you can find a cardboard box, you can give your kids markers, paints, or crayons and allow them to decorate it as they want to. They will enjoy putting their creativity to use both inside and outside of the box. If it has a lid, they can put treasures in it when they are finished, which gives them something that is usable as well as fun to create.

A Find It Jar

Building BlocksThis may be a little messy for smaller kids, but it will be enjoyable for them as well. Simply find some small toys and put them inside of large jars or containers that are filled with rice. Shake it up to hide the toys. If they are brightly colored toys or items, you can spray paint the rice to hide the items hiding inside of it. Give your child a list of items to find within the containers.

Building Fun

All kids love building things. Encourage them to build towers using blocks or anything else that will stack. Some kids like to stack marshmallows. If the marshmallows do not stick on top of each other, you can use skewers or toothpicks. Playdough rolled up in tiny balls will also work. However, playdough can also be used to build and create things. There are recipes for it so that you can make safe playdough or you can purchase it. You get to choose. Either way, your child will have a lot of fun playing with it.
